3 cups fresh cranberries
3/4 cup sugar
1 medium orange – orange zest(about 1 tablespoon) & fresh orange juice (about 1/4 cup)
1/4 cup water
1 cinnamon stick
1 ounce Grand Marnier
1/8 teaspoon allspice
- Add cranberries, sugar, water, orange juice, and cinnamon stick to a medium sauce pot and stir. Slowly bring the pot to a simmer on medium heat and let cook for 15 minutes.
- Add orange zest, Grand Marnier, and allspice to the pot and continue to slowly simmer for another 10-15 minutes.
- Cool in the refrigerator before serving.
- Add cranberries, sugar, water, orange juice, and cinnamon stick to a slow cooker. Cover, set to low heat and let cook for 5 hours.
- Add orange zest, Grand Marnier, and allspice to the slow cooker and continue to cook for another hour.
- Cool in the refrigerator before serving.
Make Ahead – This cranberry sauce can stay in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Stovetop vs. Slow Cooker – The flavor of the dish will be the same no matter the cooking method. With the stovetop, the cranberry sauce will be more jammy and congealed, while the slow cooker cranberry sauce is more loose and better maintains the cranberry shape.
Simmering instead of boiling will prevent the cranberries from bursting and loosing their shape. Keep an eye on the sauce and turn down the heat if it begins to boil.
